Literature Text

Alice fell down
The never-ending rabbit hole
All colours quickly fading
From the world she used to know

She tumbled and she fell
Deeper and further down
Past shelves of curiosities
Floating all around

And then in black and white
And several tones of grey
She emerged slightly dazed
In a world so far away

In this world of grey
In blackest black and whitest white
She met many strange creatures
More curiouser was each sight

Such as the Chesire Cat
The caterpillar with his advice
The Mad Hatter and his party
And the swimming mice

But none were as queer
As the playing cards in strange parts
Declaring ‘off with her head’
It was the Queen of Hearts

Her face was deathly pale
Her hearts painted black
In the monochrome landscape
She hollered with such flack

There was chaos all around
Alice watched it all
As the Queen hollered again
Hitting her hedgehog ball

But stranger still was this
The mallet the Queen did use
A flamingo turned on its head
Sore and slightly bruised

But stranger was to come
Much later in the day
Before the King and Queen
Would Alice have her say

And have her say she did
Before pummelled with playing cards
As the Queen called for her head
But Alice stood unscarred

And then it was she woke
Back in her colourful land
The black and white now gone
Her sister holding her hand
This is for the 'Black and White: Alice In Wonderland Contest' by :iconpolskavic51:

I read the Midpoint Press copy of 'The Complete Stories and Poems of Lewis Carroll', in which the illustrations were in black and white. This made it easier to imagine the wonderland as a black and white world
